These 11th century tombs, carved out of the rock face of the gorge of the Pakerisan river, are approached by a steep descent through breathtaking scenery. Across the gorge are some more impressive tombs that were the meditation caves of the men who were the keepers of the tombs

he seems also to have had a propensity for stone carving.coz not only di carve gunung kawi but he get the credit for most of ancient monuments on the island.and gunung kawi memorials was carve out of the rock face in a single night by the mighty finger nails of kebo iwa the Rock Temple of the Ancients, near Tampaksiring. The countryside here is gorgeously lush, and the footpath down to the temple passes through breathtakingly beautiful rice terraces.
You could hear the sounds of water trickling along the irrigation channels.
