Suluban coast comes from the Balinese language means "running or passing under something". for visitors who want to go there to pass through rocks that resembles a cave, before it finally reached the white sandy beach on the right-left high cliff, with thundering waves, if you want to have to surf out to sea because the waves are good there.

There is also the name the Blue Point Beach, because before entering the beach area, we passed the Blue Point Villas, it may be easier for tourists to mention the Blue Point beach than Suluban Beach.
To go to the beach this location, easy especially if you are from Padang-Padang beach just kept heading toward the Uluwatu Temple, find the gate Blue Point Villas, continue to enter the road leading to the Blue Point Villas, you pay to park before entering.

To get there go down the stairs terraced, surrounded by buildings cafe. Once on shore, you will enjoy the beauty because the beach is surrounded by a wall of rock that juts into such as Goa, and also the large rock that we can rise to the top of it while looking at the scenery. The beach is like a village Suluban Bule, many cafes and accommodation, surfing rental, hmm really exciting to see the sunset, overlooking the beach while drinking fresh drinks.

A place where the rock that stands firmly on the beach of Nusa Dua with a beautiful shape swept by the large waves. Because the waves crashing into the walls of the reefs would eventually make the water-sea water is soaring into the air.

Located in the peninsula Nusa Dua region. Water Blow is also suitable for making a pre-wedding photo album, or just a family photo. Photos will look good when the waves are bouncing upwards.

Taman Soekasada Ujung

Taman Soekasada Ujung lies at Tumbu village, Karangasem district. It is approximately 85 km from Airport Denpasar and 5 km from Amlapura.
Taman Soekasada Ujung has been announced to be a cultural tourist object for it is noted as one of several cultural heritages exist in Karangasem regency.

The complex of this water palace is the combination of Balinese and European architectures. There are 3 big and large ponds inside the area. In the middle of the main pond, there is a building that connected to the edge of the pond by 2 bridges.

On the most tip of the highest level of this complex, we will find a great statue of "warak" (rhinoceros). Beneath the warak there is a Bull statue. From this high place we will see a marvellous view of sea, hills with lush and green forest, the beauty of Mount Agung combined with the green terraced rice fields.

greatness of Ujung Water Palace had been destructed by the eroption of Mount Agung in 1963 which was made worst by the great shake happened in 1979. However, the recovery effort had been performed to bring back the glory of this complex of water palace by holding a reconstruction and revitalisation project on it. Although it is not as great as it was, the amaze of the past still can be seen here this moment.

Tirta gangga Water Garden

This water garden was built by the King, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem in 1948. The architecture is the combination of Balinese and Chinese style. It’s located in Ababi village, Abang District, about 83 km from Denpasar and 6 km from Amlapura (the capital city of Karangasem).

Tirta Gangga was originally the bathing and resting place for the king of Karangasem and numerous pools still exist in the complex. In the north of the complex, a large natural spring shoots out of the ground believed to be sacred and directly derived from the River Gangga.
It was totally destroyed by the Mount Agung eruption in 1963 and being abandoned for years.

Today after some renovations here-and-there people start to come (especially the locals) while they still use the spring to irrigate the rice fields for the whole region, and for every ceremony locals take the water from here.

Kintamani Batur Volcano

The volcano is located at the center of two concentric calderas NW of Agung volcano. The outer 10 x 13.5 km wide caldera was formed during eruption of the Bali (or Ubud) Ignimbrite about 29,300 years ago and now contains a caldera lake on its SE side, opposite the satellitic cone of 2152-m-high Gunung Abang, the topographic high of the Batur complex. The inner 6.4 x 9.4 km wide caldera was formed about 20,150 years ago during eruption of the Gunungkawi Ignimbrite.
The SE wall of the inner caldera lies beneath Lake Batur, Batur cone has been constructed within the inner caldera to a height above the outer caldera rim. The 1717-m-high Batur stratovolcano has produced vents over much of the inner caldera.

Beyond the moat, the temple lies on slightly rising ground. The grassy expanse of the outermost courtyard, the fine array of merus and pavilions in the inner courtyard, and its well-kept appearance make it one of the most beautiful temples in Bali. Mythology :
the people who catch these Kokokan bird was visited by strange creatures big and scary in a dream or reality. This is not hallucination, because more than 50 people experienced it. Finally, after consultation with a priest, perform the ritual of apology in the local village temple.

When the procession took place, the village temple functionary experienced trance and says if the Kokokan bird is actually an rencang (guard) Ida Betara that glorified in the local village temple. These birds are forces who would keep the village in terms of abstract (virtual world) from pest and disease that striking their fields.

It is proved, after the villagers made a monument in the village temple as offerings of this Kokokan bird, the village became prosperous, abundant harvests and there was no danger threatening until today.

Tegenungan Waterfall

Located at the village of Kemenuh. There are 2 ways to get to the waterfall. Go 0.5km west from Blahbatuh, turning south at the next junction. Look out for a sign for the Waterfall Restaurant. This way will put you on the same side of the steep river valley as the waterfall and bungee tower. The best view is from the other bank, which can be accessed by driving 1km west from Blahbatuh towards Kemenuh village. Signs indicate the direction of the waterfall.

Bali island lies 3.2 km east of Java Indonesia and approximately 8 degrees south of the equator. East to west, the island is approximately 153 km wide and 112 km north to south (95 by 69 miles, respectively), with a surface area of 5,633 km². The highest point of Bali island is Mount Agung at 3,142 m (10,308 feet) high, an active volcano that last erupted in March 1963. Mountains cover centre to the eastern side, with Mount Agung the eastern most peak. Mount Batur (1,717 m) is also still active. About 30,000 years ago it experienced a catastrophic eruption — one of the largest known volcanic events on Earth In the south the land descends to form an alluvial plain, watered by shallow rivers, drier in the dry season and overflowing during periods of heavy rain.
The principal cities of Bali island are the northern port of Singaraja, the former colonial capital of Bali, and the present provincial capital and largest city, Denpasar, near the southern coast. The town of Ubud (north of Denpasar), with its art market, museums and galleries, is arguably the cultural center of Bali island. There are major coastal roads and roads that cross the island mainly north-south. Due to the mountainous terrain in the island's center, the island roads tend to follow the crests of the ridges across the mountains. There are no railway lines. The island is surrounded by coral reefs. Beaches in the south tend to have white sand while those in the north and west black sand. The beach town of Padangbai in the south east has both: the main beach and the secret beach have white sand and the south beach and the blue lagoon have much darker sand. Pasut Beach, near Ho River and Pura Segara, is a quiet beach 14 km southwest of Tabanan. The Ho River is navigable by small sampan. Black sand beaches between Pasut and Klating dukuh are being developed for tourism, but apart from the seaside temple of Tanah Lot, this is not yet a tourist area.

Bali island has been inhabited since early prehistoric times firstly by descendants of a prehistoric race who migrated through mainland Asia to the Indonesian archipelago, thought to have first settled in Bali around 3000 BC. Stone tools dating from this time have been found near the village of Cekik in the island's west.
The end of the prehistoric period in Indonesia was marked by the arrival of Hindu people from India around 100 BC as determined by Brahmi inscriptions on potsherds. The name Balidwipa has been discovered from various inscriptions, including the Blanjong charter issued by Sri Kesari Warmadewa in 913 AD and mentioning Walidwipa. It was during this time that the complex irrigation system subak was developed to grow rice. Some religious and cultural traditions still in existence today can be traced back to this period. The Hindu Majapahit Empire (1293–1520 AD) on eastern Java founded a Balinese colony in 1343. When the empire declined, there was an exodus of intellectuals, artists, priests and musicians from Java to Bali in the 15th century.
The First European contact with Bali island is thought to have been when Dutch explorer Cornelis de Houtman arrived in 1597, though a Portuguese ship had foundered off the coast of Bukit as early as 1585.] Dutch rule over Bali came later, was more aggressively fought for, and they were never ultimately able to establish themselves as they had in other parts of Indonesia such as Java and Maluku. In the 1840s, a presence in Bali island was established, firstly in the island's north, by playing off various distrustful Balinese realms against each other. The Dutch mounted large naval and ground assaults first against the Sanur region and then Denpasar. The Balinese were hopelessly overwhelmed in number and armament, but rather than face the humiliation of surrender, they mounted a final defensive but suicidal assault, or puputan. Despite Dutch pleas for surrender, an estimated 4,000 Balinese marched to their death against the invaders. Afterwards the Dutch governors exercised little influence over the island, generally allowing local control over religion and culture to remain intact.
Japan occupied Bali during World War II during which time a Balinese military officer, Gusti Ngurah Rai, formed a Balinese 'freedom army'. Following Japan's Pacific surrender in August 1945, the Dutch promptly returned to Indonesia, including Bali island, immediately to reinstate their pre-war colonial administration. This was resisted by the Balinese rebels now using Japanese weapons.
On 20 November 1946, the Battle of Marga was fought in Tabanan in central Bali. Colonel I Gusti Ngurah Rai, 29 years old, finally rallied his forces in east Bali at Marga Rana, where they made a suicide attack on the heavily armed Dutch. The Balinese battalion was entirely wiped out, breaking the last thread of Balinese military resistance. In 1946 the Dutch constituted Bali as one of the 13 administrative districts of the newly-proclaimed Republic of East Indonesia, a rival state to the Republic of Indonesia which was proclaimed and headed by Sukarno and Hatta. Bali island was included in the ‘’Republic of the United States of Indonesia’’ when the Netherlands recognised Indonesian independence on Dec. 29, 1949. In 1956 Bali officially renounced the Dutch union and legally became a province within the Republic of Indonesia.
The 1963 eruption of Mount Agung killed thousands, created economic havoc and forced many displaced Balinese to be transmigrated to other parts of Indonesia.
In 1965, after a failed coup d'etat in Jakarta against the national government of Indonesia, Bali, along with other regions of Indonesia most notably Java, was the scene of widespread killings of (often falsely-accused) members and sympathizers of the Communist Party of Indonesia (PKI) by right-wing General Soeharto-sponsored militias. Possibly more than 100,000 Balinese were killed although the exact numbers are unknown to date and the events remain legally unclosed.Many unmarked but well known mass graves of victims are located around the island.
On October 12, 2002, a car bomb attack in the tourist resort of Kuta killed 202 people, largely foreign tourists and injured a further 209. Further bombings occurred three years later in Kuta and nearby Jimbaran Bay.

Tanah Lot Temple

Tanah Lot Temple is said to be the work of the 15century priest Nirartha. The story goes that during his travels along the south coast he saw the rock-island's beautiful setting and rested there. Some fishermen saw him, and bought him gifts. Nirartha then spent the night on the little island. Later he spoke to the fishermen and told them to build a shrine on the rock for he felt it to be a holy place to worship the Balinese gods.

The Tanah Lot temple was then built and has been an important part of Balinese mythological history for centuries. The temple is one of seven sea temples around the Balinese coast. It was said that each of the sea temples was to be within eyesight of the next so that they formed a chain along the south-western coast.
At the base of the rocky island, poisonous sea snakes are believed to guard the temple from evil spirits and intruders. There is said to be one giant snake which also protects the temple. It is believed that this snake was created from Nirartha's scarf when he established the island.

The Bukit’s most famous landmark in Jimbaran is Pura Luhur Uluwatu, an exquisite monument situated on a headland at the westernmost tip of the Peninsula. The carvings which decorate the temple are very well preserved in comparison to many of Bali’s temples, due to the extremely hard, dark gray coral stone used in its

construction.Uluwatu was reputedly built by the architect-priest Mpu Kuturan around the 11th century as one of the six major sad kahyangan territorial temples of the island. The reformer priest Pedanda Wawu Rauh, rebuilt it in its present state in the 16th century. He is said to have attained his moksa (release from earthly desires) here. The temple is home to a small colony of monkeys who have caused some damage to the temple over the years, but still retain their status as sitting tenants. The temple’s structure follows the tripartite pattern of godly, human and demonic courtyards.
The outermost entrance is a candi bentar split gate shaped as a set of curved Garuda wings, an unusual feature as they are usually left smooth. Inside the temple, a second gate is capped by a monstruous Kala head guardian figure. At the foot of the gate, right and left, are two Ganesha “elephant god” statues. The temple underwent renovations in the late 19th century, in 1949, and more recently in the 1980s, and some parts are actually as new as they look. Despite the temple’s mixture of old and new it is a breathtakingly beautiful spot, especially when the sun begins to set.

What is a Balian? , defines many different types of Balian or holy man. One type of Balian are called balian tulang or bone setters. There are many other types of balian – shaman or traditional healers. There are the balian uwut, the name originating from urat or muscle, which refers to a masseur who has mastered the traditional knowledge of human anatomy and is capable of healing muscle strains or any other bodily stiffness. The Balinese also recognize balian ushada (shamans whose traditional medicinal knowledge is based on ancient lontar or papyrus inscriptions) and balian tenung (soothsayers who spiritually heal people affected by black magic).

. The balian uwut, especially, still play a significant role in traditional Balinese medicine. Despite the fact modern doctors are practicing in rural areas, people still choose to go to balian uwut for help.”

Of all of these types of Balian, The Balian Tenung is the one that most accurately describes Ketut Liyer, not the least because he is over 80 years old (no one I asked, including Ketut himself, had an exact age for him) and cannot perform the physical requirements of massage or bone setting. This important temple one km north of the Tampaksiring village was founded as early as 962 AD. It is not as spectacular as Gunung Kawi a few km’s away, but absolutely worth a visit. Even if this is one of the oldest sites on Bali much of the structures are relatively new, it was completely restored in 1969. People from all over Bali come here to take a bath in the holy water for good health and good luck.The crystal clear water surfaces in a pool which, according to old traditions, is the Balinese Fountain of Eternal Youth. The pool is therefore protected by a wall. The surfacing water origins from the Batur lake via underground rivers.
Water is considered to be so important on Bali that it is used in almost all ceremonies and rituals. The Balinese religion is often called Agama Tirta; “The Religion of the Holy Water”. The water in Pura Tirta Empul is especially holy, all water used for cremations on Bali are taken from here and believed to have magical healing powers.Tirta Empul was built under the rule of Sri Candrabhaya Singha Warmadewa in the 10th century. Like other Balinese temples it is divided into three main courtyards: the front, the middle and the inner sanctum. Backing the outer courtyard are two rectangular bathing pools, one for men and one for women. According to tradition, each of the pool’s 15 fountains has its own name and function: spiritual purification, cleansing from evil, antidote to poison.
A legend tells the story about how the god Indra created the spring in Tirta Empul. His army had been poisoned by the demon king Mayadanava, and Indra made a hole in the Earth in order to tap “amerta”, the healing water which brought life back to his soldiers. An inscription with old-Balinese text, found in the Manukaya village north of Tampaksiring, tells about two pools built here in 962 AD. The inscription was finally deciphered in 1969, and described in detail a ritual cleansing of a holy stone during the full moon in the fourth month of the Balinese calendar.

During more than 1.000 years the villagers of Manukaya repeated this ritual on the exact day of the founding of Tirta Empul. They never knew why until someone was able to read the inscription. The date of the temple’s founding must have been handed down orally through 33 generatioof invasions, dynastic changes, and natural disasters. Ceremonies are regularly held in Tirta Empul, and dance groups from far away come to cleanse their barong masks in the water. The area is known for carvings in ivory, bones and coconut shells, which can be bought here. On a hilltop above Tirta Empul sits the palace of Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno. The Istana Negara palace was built in 1954.

The name of Bukit Jambul was firstly given during the Dutch invasion in Indonesia by a tourist, who was inspired by a high hill standing on the south of the main road connecting Klungkung regency and Besakih of Karangasem regency. Barong Dance

Barong is probably the most well known dance. It is also another story telling dance, narrating the fight between good and evil. This dance is the classic example of Balinese way of acting out mythology, resulting in myth and history being blended into one reality.The story goes that Rangda, the mother of Erlangga, the King of Bali in the tenth century, was condemned by Erlangga's father because she practiced black magic. After she became a widow, she summoned all the evil spirits in the jungle, the leaks and the demons, to come after Erlangga. A fight occurred, but she and her black magic troops were too strong that Erlangga had to ask for the help of Barong.

Barong came with Erlangga's soldiers, and fight ensued. Rangda casted a spell that made Erlangga soldiers all wanted to kill themselves, pointing their poisoned keris into their own stomachs and chests. Barong casted a spell that turned their body resistant to the sharp keris. At the end, Barong won, and Rangda ran away.

Somebody can die or get seriously injured in a Barong dance. It is said that if Rangda's spell is too strong, a weak soldier may not be able to resist it, even with the help of Barong. He may end up hurting himself with his own keris.
The masks of Barong and Rangda are considered sacred items, and before they are brought out, a priest must be present to offer blessings by sprinkling them with holy water taken from Mount Agung, and offerrings must be presented.

One big dam can be shared by many subaks. The member of subaks depends on how large the water supplies are. The subak regulates the rice planting and the distribution of water needed by the rice field, to maintain the dam and irrigation canals. The good condition of the dam, the canals and the ditches assure the steady flow of the water to the rice fields and that no water will be wasted.

Besakih Temple

The greatest of all Balinese sanctuaries, Pura besakih, is the witness of the great natural power barely presented by Mount Agung looming above.
Its stunning look presents the harmonious combination of religi and nature.
The temple complex, about 22 temples in all, is built separately in such a distance of more than one kilometer.
Pura Pengubengan, the highest temple at the compounds, occupies an area where many ancestral temples, such as Pura Padharman, are sustained by a particular clan group.
Puta Penataran Agung, the great temple of state, occupies the central part of Besakih temple. Its six terraces represent a history of successive enlargements.

A sacred rite ‘Bharata Turun Kabeh (meaning ‘Gods descend together') annually celebrated during March or April united the 22 temples.
Thousands of people from any place in the island gather around the temple complex in devoted pray to the Gods. The festival lasts for one-month long.

The great Mount Agung rises to an altitude of 3,148 meters (10,308 feet) in eastern Bali. Perched on its slopes about 1,000 meters (3,000 feet) in altitude is the holy Besakih Temple, Mother Temple of Bali.

Besakih is said to be the only temple where a Hindu of any caste can worship. Surrounding three main temples dedicated to Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu are 18 separate sanctuaries belonging to different regencies and caste groups.Stairs ascend through a monumental split gate to the courtyard of the main temple, Pura Panataran Agung, where the central shrine dedicated to the Hindu trinity of Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu is wrapped in cloth and decorated with flower offerings.Two other important temples further up the slope join with the Pura Panataran Agung to symbolize the Hindu trinity: the Pura Panataran Agung in the center flies white banners for Shiva, Pura Kiduling Kreteg to the right flies red banners for Brahma; and Pura Batu Mddeg, on the left, has black banners for Vishnu.There are many other temples to explore at Besakih, but many of their inner courtyards are reserved for worship and closed to visitors.

Ning is best known for her live stage performances, an extensive repertoire and her versatility especially in cross-over projects. She is also an actor and has taken roles in a musical, seven major films, a short film and several tele-movies. Most significant is her critically acclaimed performance in the short film 'Malaikat Di Jendela' (Angel by My Window), directed by Osman Ali. The short film had participated in several film festivals in Cannes, Rotterdam and Singapore. Beside singing and acting, Ning is also a violinist and played 1st violin in the National Youth Orchestra in her teens.

On 10 March 2008, Ning released her first International album 'EastToWest' in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Thailand. The album was fully conceived, produced, recorded and mixed in London.

Otonan is quite different from common birthday party. It is held twice a year because its celebration is based on wuku. Wuku itself is based on Balinese Pawukon system in which each cycle consists of 30 wuku. Each Wuku lasts for a week; so a cycle comprises of 210 days. The wuku is a bit similar of zodiac; each name reflects characters of someone who was born on that wuku. What wuku and day a Balinese was born; on that same wuku and day the otonan is held. This birthday celebration needs not a fancy dress because Balinese use only simple traditional dress on that celebration.

Balinese believe that they were born with four guardian brothers or sisters (kanda pat). When otonan is held, the four siblings are called to gather around the child and protect her/him. Then the child is hoped to be aware of who she/he actually is with help from his/her four siblings. If she/he doesn’t care with these siblings, the they will leave him/her then she/he will be vulnerable to any magical attack and tend to do ill conducts. Otonan is a day when Balinese aware of their self.
Balinese mother always remember when her child’s otonan is though the mother is illiterate she can count correctly when the day of otonan is. Then mother will prepare all of stuffs needed; cakes, fruits, and the offerings for the otonan ceremony. After all of stuffs have been arranged on bale (it looks like bed) the child is called to perform the ritual.First, the child has to pray in the family temple.

Then she/he goes to bale. The child is sprinkled by holy water and her/his hands are cleansed spiritually. Priest or one of the parent utter a prayer, wishing her/his to be successful. At the end of ritual, her/his wrist will be banded by white or white-red-black thread. It is a symbol control; she/he will control him/herself not to do something bad.

Rituals are end. The child invites his/her brothers to have a meal together. His/her brothers have to take one of fruits or cakes. In Denpasar, the child will invite her/his brothers to magibung. Magibung is a Balinese words for a group of people having meal together with a big plate. They need not another plate. They will sit around the big plate. While they are eating they are usually joking and chatting.
Well, birthday needs not to be celebrated on luxurious party, Balinese prove it. On their birthday they still remember to their God.

The temple consists of three parts. In the first courtyard (jaba) are three platforms, with 13 figures in the lowest row, ten in the middle row and 13 in the rear row. All the figures represent characters from the "Ramayana".A four-tiered split gate (candi bentar) leads into the second courtyard (jaba tengah). On the rear wall, which lies between this courtyard and the third one (jeroan) containing the holy of holies (bebaturan), are a whole series of figures.

In the center of the third courtyard is a square stepped platform on which are, to the left, a gedong pesimpangan dedicated to Ratu Ayu Sari (a manifestation of the earth mother Ibu Prtiwi), and to the right the gedong pesimpangan of Ratu Ngurah Sari, protector of the produce of the earth.Of particular interest is a relief on the right-hand side of the central platform, showing a man on a bicycle, the wheels of which are decorated with flowers. Although the local people believe that this carving is at least 400 years old, it is thought that the figure on the bicycle represents the Dutch ethnologist W. O. J. Nieuwenkamp, who rode on a bicycle (a means of transport previously unknown to the local people) when working in northern Bali around 1904. The relief is not now in its original condition: it was badly damaged in the 1917 earthquake and was altered during the process of restoration.

an inscribed lontar leaf representing intelligence & wisdom
uang bolong representing wealth
grains of rice and kernels of corn representing industriousness and diligence
gold and silver jewellery representing the need for desire
objects woven into the shape of aquatic animals to bring to life the symbolic pond.

What the baby grabs with her right hand will be bestowed upon her in abundance in later life.
Then bracelets are put on her hands and feet, a ring on her finger and chain around her neck. A token meal of rice is then fed to her, this being the first time that the baby has been given any 'solid' food.

Watukaru or Batukaru Temple is located at Wangaya Gede countryside, Penebel District and Tabanan regency, and west part of Bali Island. It is located right on the foot of Mount Batukaru and about 1.30 hours from Denpasar Airport
The history of this temple is difficult to be found out even in the ancient omission exists in this temple. Puri Agung Karangasem or Karangasem Palace was built in 19th Century by Anak Agung Gede Jelantik, the first king of Karangasem Kingdom. This tourist destination is visited for its unique architecture, which is the combination of Balinese, Chinese and European architectures.

As it was mentioned before, the architecture of Puri Agung Karangasem is the combination of three different styles. Balinese architecture can be found on the carving of Hindu's statues and the relief on the wall of the building. The European influence is seen on the style of the main building with its large veranda, while the Chinese architecture is implied on the style of the window, the door and its other ornaments.

Puri Agung Karangasem consists of three parts, namely Bencingah, Jaba Tengah, and Maskerdam. Bencingah is the front part of the Palace, where traditional art performance takes place. Jaba Tengah is set as the Palace Garden with a big pond. In the middle of the pond, there is a building called "Balai Gili" or floating building, here we can also find 2 old lychee trees. The third part is Maskerdam, of which the name was given after the name Amsterdam, a city in Netherlands. This building was constructed when the King of Karangasem started opening relationship with the Dutch government.

Brahma Vihara-Arama known more as "Banjar Buddhist Temple" is the biggest Buddhist temple in Bali. It was built in 1969 and completely finished in 1970 and formally functioned around 1973. It is located on a hill at Banjar Tegeha village, district of Banjar with serene and peaceful surrounding over viewing Lovina Beach. Tattooing has been a Eurasian practice at least since Neolithic times. Otzi the Iceman, dating from the fourth to fifth millennium BC, was found in the Ötz valley in the Alps and had approximately 57 carbon tattoos consisting of simple dots and lines on his lower spine, behind his left knee, and on his right ankle. Other Mummies tattoos and dating from the end of the second millennium BC have been discovered at Pazyryk the Ukok Plateau.

Tattooing in Japan is thought to go back to the Paleolithic era, some ten thousand years ago. Various other cultures have had their own tattoo traditions, ranging from rubbing cuts and other wounds with ashes, to hand-pricking the skin to insert Dyes.
Tattoos are created by inserting colored materials inside the skin's surface. The first tattoos probably were created by an accident. Someone had a small wound, and rubbed it with soot and ashes from a fire. Once the wound had healed, they saw that a mark stayed permanently.

Gamelan Orchestra supporting a cremation ceremony Gamelan Balinese music is based on the gamelan orchestra, unique in the world. Gamelan music is almost completely percussion. Though it sounds strange at first with its noisy percussion, most listeners find that it soon becomes exciting and enjoyable. Many villages throughout Bali have gamelan groups whose performances can be heard in venues ranging from village community centers to luxury hotels.

Cremation of the dead is perhaps the most important -- and often the most colorful -- ritual of Balinese Hinduism. A cremation is necessary to liberate the soul of the deceased for the passage into heaven and reincarnation. Due to the cost and the complicated preparations, cremations often occur long after the death of the person. Group cremations are sometimes held in order to share the expenses. Between death and cremation the body is buried in the cemetery. During this time, the soul of the deceased is thought to be agitated and longing for release. An auspicious day for the cremation is chosen by a priest after conculting the Balinese calendar. Preparations begin long before the appointed day. A large tower of bamboo and paper, extravagantly painted according to the caste and wealth of the deceased, is constructed. On the morning of the cremation, relatives and friends of the deceased visit and pay their last respects. At midday the body is carried in the tower to the graveyard by members of the dead man?s banjar. This becomes a loud, noisy, and boisterous procession designed to confuse the soul of the deceased so that it wiil lose its way and not be able to return to the family compound.At the cremation site a priest officiates and the fires are lit.

Another raucous procession carries the ashes to the nearest body of water for disposal. This represents the cleansing and disposal of the material body and is cause for singing and laughing.
Later, there are private ceremonies for the care of the soul. The status of reborn soul relates to the person?s karma, or his conduct in previous lives.
In general, the Balinese feel that the soul is reborn within the same circle of blood relations.

The first function of the pavilion was for the court of law in 1945. Kertha Gosa was repainted in the 1920s and again in the 1960s. The Kertha Gosa Pavilion at Klungkung has the story of Bhima Swarga painted around the ceiling. Bhima Swarga is a hindu epic referenced form the mahabharata. The story at the Kertha Gosa Pavilion is not the whole Mahabharata but one small section called Bhima Swarga.
